There's An Easy Way To Find And Delete Files From Your Hard Drive
Delete files by following my simple and straightforward method to find files that are just sitting on your hard drive, doing nothing, and taking up lots of space. The method involves you using the file searching tool that is already built into Windows operating systems to search through all files on your computer greater than a certain size and to list them by size. Once you have done this search, you have to then look at the larger files one by one and decide whether you can delete them or transfer them to another file storage device. Here is what I suggest you do to initiate your search for files that can be deleted. - Click on the "Start" button
- Click on "Search" to start up the Windows file search companion tool
- In the Windows search companion tool, select "All Files and Folders"
- In the "Look In" drop down menu, select the drive you want to search
- In "What Size Is It" select "Large (more than 1 MB)"
- Click on the search button to start the search
When the search is completed, click on the "Size" column header which will sort the files found by their size. This will enable you to examine the largest files, your aim being to determine which large files are safe for deletion, or for transfer them to another file storage device. Before you delete files, I thoroughly recommend that you decide whether or not they are safe for deletion. My recommendation is that you only delete or transfer files which you know are absolutely certain are not essential for your operating system or for other software installed on your PC. The safest files to delete are multimedia files and microsoft office files. Multimedia files include pictures, music, movies, sound recording etcetera. Microsoft Office files include Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Visio files that you know you no longer need. Feel free to just delete them if you know you no longer need them.
