The Hard Drive Full Warning!!

A hard drive full warning indicates one of the main reasons why your computer could be performing slowly.

Software often requires a certain amount of free space on the hard drive to operate properly.

This is especially true for operating systems, as they constantly write data to the hard drive while operating.

It is also true for disk defragmenters, because when defragmenting they move files around, and cannot do this if there is no space.

Given all of the downloading and installing of software we do these days it is quite easy to quickly render a hard drive full.

So here is a very simple method for checking out whether your hard drive is full or not.

Open Windows Explorer and find your C drive. The C drive may have different names, but it is always superceded by C:.

Right click on the C drive in Windows Explorer and then select Properties.

This will bring up the following window which provides a pie chart which tells you how much Used Space (blue) and Free Space (pink) you have.

hard drive space

As you can see, I don't need to take any action to obtain additional space as I have plenty of unused space on my internal drive.

However, if your pie chart is showing too much blue this means "hard drive full" and you need to do one or some of the following:

Taking these actions will free up space and should provide you with a marked improvement in your computer's performance.
