Use The Windows Uninstaller To Remove Old Software You No Longer Use

The Windows Uninstaller is an easy to use uninstalling program that comes packaged with your windows operating system. You can use this tool to uninstall old software applications and programs that you no longer need.

To open it, take the following steps :

  1. Click on the Windows "Start" button
  2. Click on the "Control Panel" Button
  3. Double click on "Add Or Remove New Programs"
  4. Wait while the program list is populated

A list of all programs installed on your computer should come into view. If you are using Windows XP, the list in the Windows Uninstaller will look like the following picture.

You can see how much disk space the program is taking up in the right hand side. If you select a program you can see how frequently the software is used, which will help you decide whether or not to uninstall it.

You can also sort the list of programs by the software name, the size of the software, how frequently the software is used, and the date that the software was last used. This is pretty handy if you quickly want to identify the biggest software, or the least frequently used software.

There is also a check box which you can check if you want the list to include all of the Windows updates downloaded over time from the internet to keep your operating system, or various Windows programs up to date.

To uninstall a program using the Windows Uninstaller, select the program, and then press the Remove button. This will run the uninstall program that will remove this software from your computer.

Run through this action several times for all of the nonsense software that you will find on your computer. Typically, if you have had your PC for a while, there will be quite a few such programs.

Remember. Don't remove programs that you don't remember installing. They could be important to the functioning of your computer (such as WIndows Updates), or they could be software used by another user of your PC.
